Dear students!
The virtual exhibition called «World Environment Day» is available for you at the section of foreign literature (room 108).
The United Nations designated 5 June
as World Environment Day to highlight that the protection and health of the environment is a major issue, which affects the well-being of people and economic development throughout the world. The celebration of this day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment.
World Environment Day was established in 1972 by the United Nations at the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment (5–16 June 1972), that had resulted from discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment.
First held in 1973, it has been a platform for raising awareness on environmental issues as marine pollution, overpopulation, global warming, sustainable development and wildlife crime. World Environment Day is a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, the program has provided a theme and forum for businesses, non- government organizations, communities, governments and celebrities to advocate environmental causes. World Environment Day 2023 is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matters. World Environment Day 2023 Theme is: Solutions to plastic pollution. The steps governments and businesses are taking to tackle plastic pollution are the consequence of this action.
